Beyond terrorism, the border crisis involves interconnected issues such as transnational gangs, Chinese influence operations, and the smuggling of weapons and illicit substances. These actors often operate with significant resources, supporting or facilitating terrorist activities, and are difficult to dismantle due to the vast geographical and bureaucratic complexities.
In particular, the border landscape is akin to a giant funnel with numerous entry points—no single measure will suffice. Significant political and strategic shifts are needed to reorient the entire approach to border security and immigration enforcement.
