One notable aspect of this operation is the relatively lax enforcement at points of entry into Mexico. Unlike the United States, where border security is more stringent, Mexico does not extensively check southbound vehicles crossing the border. Reports indicate that customs and border patrol officials often do not scrutinize all vehicles heavily as they cross into Mexico, primarily because of the cartel's influence and possible corrupt practices.
In contrast, U.S. authorities like Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are more rigorous when screening goods and people entering the United States. This asymmetry allows firearms to flow more easily into Mexico.
