A significant issue raised in recent discussions is the lack of concrete data and understanding regarding the extent of organized crime in the country. During a recent roundtable involving politicians, the head of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) was asked how many organized crime groups operate in Canada. His response was, “We don’t have a number.” This admission has been met with frustration, especially considering a report by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), the country’s equivalent of the CIA, which identified over 600 organized crime groups active in Canada.
