Despite Disney’s claims, American audiences have continued to show up for films from other studios. Blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Super Mario Bros., Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Avatar: The Way of Water have all enjoyed immense success during the same period. These films, made by other studios, have attracted audiences in droves, contradicting Disney’s narrative that theater-goers are not returning.
This disconnect points to mismanagement and possibly creative stagnation within Disney. Instead of aligning with audience interests, Disney appears to be pushing out products that do not resonate, further alienating viewers and shrinking their market share.
