One of the defining features of Edwards' new approach is his preference for location shooting over constructing elaborate sets. Rather than building massive environments, Edwards opts to shoot on real locations and utilize visual effects (VFX) to enhance or transform the scenery into the expansive sci-fi worlds the story requires.
