As the offseason unfolds, trade rumors about Skins—also known as Paul Skins—are heating up. Although some claim these reports are fake, there’s strong evidence suggesting otherwise. The relationship between the Pirates and Skins appears destined to be temporary, much like a celebrity breakup: inevitable and preordained.
The Pirates have publicly stated they aren’t interested in trading Skins, with General Manager Ben Cherington affirming he expects Skins to remain in a Pirate uniform through 2026. Cherington also claimed the franchise has more flexibility now than in previous offseasons. However, rumors have circulated from anonymous sources that Skins himself lacks confidence in the team’s ability to contend with him and is eager to leave before free agency in 2029.
