He made a pointed remark: "You can't just put a woman in pants and expect her to be a hero. They can wear dresses or whatever, but it's their brains and ability to think and plan." This comment appears to subtly critique the superficial inclusion of female characters in later iterations, such as Ray in the sequel trilogy. Lucas seemed to suggest that authentic heroism derives from character depth and capability, not just appearances or genre stereotypes.
