An Initial Encounter with AI Assistance in Scientific Writing
The author recounts a personal experience while working on a paper about the foundations of quantum mechanics. When nearing completion, they encountered a stumbling block. Turning to ChatGPT, they sought help by pasting their LaTeX code and asking for assistance. The first three solutions offered by the AI were evidently nonsensical, yet the fourth inadvertently resolved the problem entirely. This incident led the author to reflect on their role in the creative process and question the longevity of human necessity in scientific work.
