Studies highlight that exposure to narratives emphasizing “alpha” versus “beta” roles—and the dichotomy that categorizes men into confident, successful leaders or submissive, rejected followers—can reinforce negative self-perceptions.
The narratives often link perceived failure with personal inadequacy, leading to feelings of emasculation and low self-esteem. Ironically, while some promote the idea that adopting "alpha" traits will improve success with women, such beliefs can cause further emotional distress and harmful attitudes towards women, viewing relationships as a conquest rather than partnership.
