In her desperation, the queen is given a three-day window to discover the dwarf’s true name—a common fairy tale motif symbolizing power, knowledge, and identity. She sends messengers to gather names far and wide. On the third day, a messenger reports finding a strange, dancing little man around a fire, singing about how nobody knows his name but he’s called Rumple Stilt Skin.
Armed with this knowledge, the queen confronts the dwarf, who shrieks in rage when she guesses his name. In a dramatic struggle, he pulls off his own leg—an unsettling, visceral image—and hops away, defeated. From that day onward, he disappears, leaving the queen free from her torment.
