Surrounding the rings are other notable moons, including Tethys and Mimas. Tethys, the largest moon in this section, measures over 1,000 kilometers across and features a heavily cratered surface with prominent rift valleys. Its most distinctive feature is a massive crater that gives it a peculiar "giant eyeball" appearance. Tethys is also characterized by extensive ice coverage, making it one of Saturn’s most reflective bodies.
Mimas, positioned opposite Tethys, is famed for its resemblance to the Death Star from Star Wars, thanks to a large crater, Herschel, that dominates its surface. Only about 400 kilometers in diameter, Mimas’s icy composition and proximity to the E Ring make it an essential component of Saturn’s complex satellite system.
