One of the most notorious hotspots for cyclones is the Bay of Bengal, located near India. This region regularly experiences powerful tropical systems, and during October 2013, it was the battleground for Cyclone Phailin.
Cyclone Phailin's development was rapid and intense. It initially formed as a depression but quickly intensified over just two days. By October 10th, it had escalated to a very severe cyclonic storm—equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane. Just a day later, it reached Category 5 status, making it the second-strongest system to make landfall in India.
