Tropical cyclones are like giant engines fueled by warm, moist air from the ocean's surface. Their formation requires specific conditions:
Warm Ocean Waters: Typically above 26.5°C (80°F).
Low Wind Shear: Conditions where wind speed and direction are relatively uniform with height, allowing the storm to organize.
Pre-existing Disturbance: Such as a tropical wave or low-pressure area.
Coriolis Effect: Necessary to initiate spin, which is why they seldom form within 5° of the equator.
