Contrary to popular belief, comets are definite members of our solar system. They originate from two primary reservoirs: the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud. Comets from the Kuiper Belt tend to be more frequent and are responsible for periodic appearances, while those from the distant Oort Cloud are rarer visitors, taking thousands of years to make their approach. They are not visitors from other star systems, but rather, native celestial wanderers.
