Venus’s dense, thick atmosphere traps heat via a runaway greenhouse effect, pushing surface temperatures up to 462°C, even though it’s farther from the Sun than Mercury, which peaks at about 426°C. The lack of atmosphere on Mercury means it cannot retain heat, causing drastic temperature swings.
