The Moons of Mars: Phobos and Deimos
Mars has two small, irregularly shaped moons—Phobos and Deimos—which are much smaller than our Moon. Phobos, the larger and closer of the two, appears quite prominent in the Martian sky, whereas Deimos is small and distant, often looking like just a star passing overhead.
One of the most astonishing observations is a solar eclipse of Phobos, captured from a rover on Mars. As Phobos passes in front of the Sun, the darkness diffuses across the landscape, offering a rare glimpse into celestial mechanics from the Martian surface.
