This trend isn't confined to predators. The panelists discuss how other franchises, such as Alien and Star Wars, have also suffered from over-explanation and politicization. They criticise the tendency of writers and creators to project human traits onto monsters and aliens—such as Alien Earth's disastrous attempt to make the alien into a pet, or Alien's own sexual overtones and graphic violence which, in the original, contributed to the horror atmosphere. Modern versions tend to make these entities more relatable, which many see as a betrayal of the source material.
