The Traps and Threats
Despite the optimism, Mostaque cautions about corruption, authoritarianism, and totalitarian misuse of AI:
Surveillance and control: Governments could deploy AI for unprecedented mass surveillance, social credit systems, and suppression of dissent. The recent Albanian experiment with an AI minister exemplifies both the potential and dangers of integrating AI into governance.
Weaponization and "evil": AI could be exploited as tools for weaponized disinformation, manipulative propaganda, or biological threats. The possibility of amoral AI—programmed without ethics, or co-opted by malicious actors—poses a "Pandora’s box."
