At its core, Good Boy explores themes that go beyond typical haunted house tropes. It touches on deep bonds of love, loyalty, and companionship, all set against the backdrop of impending loss. Todd, Indie’s owner, is battling lung cancer and chooses to retreat with his furry friend to his late grandfather's cabin, despite his sister’s warnings that something sinister might be lurking.
As the story unfolds, Indie begins to perceive a dark, shadowy figure around the house and woods, unsettling nightmares plague him, and Todd’s health deteriorates. It becomes clear that an external evil is at play—possibly linked to Todd’s grandfather’s mysterious past—and Indie’s instinct to protect his master becomes the film's emotional centerpiece.
