A recurring complaint is the series' portrayal of its characters. The rescue team sent to the crash site is a motley crew of 20-somethings with little to no military or scientific expertise. The team leader, described as a "gangly wimp," and the other members evoke a sense of unprepared, inexperienced teenagers rather than seasoned professionals.
