Throughout Stranger Things, the monsters and overarching threats have evolved—from the terrifying Demogorgons in the first season to the colossal Mind Flayer in season three, and finally to Vecna in season four. The evolution of these creatures reflects the increasing scale of the threat against Hawkins, with each season introducing new beings—demi dogs, monsters made of bodies, and now Vecna, who seems to encapsulate the show's modern horror aesthetic.
