A central theme across Jacobson’s work is the challenge of fear. In his chapter on Fear and Anxiety, he describes fear as an invisible enemy—its effects paralyzing, causing retreat, indecision, and stagnation without any physical weapons. Emotional fears rooted in trauma—for example, fear of marriage due to parental divorce or fear of raising children because of childhood wounds—are particularly insidious because they often operate unconsciously.
