Part 11/16:
Europe's ambitious green energy campaign, meant to cut emissions, has resulted in soaring costs and energy insecurity. The shutdown of nuclear plants and bans on fracking left Europe dependent on intermittent renewables and imported LNG, often from the U.S. and Russia. When Russia invaded Ukraine, energy prices exploded—up to four times higher than U.S. prices—making European industries uncompetitive.
Households face energy poverty, forced into impossible choices between heating and daily essentials, while grid volatility hampers economic planning. Europe's green strategy, in pursuit of global leadership on climate change, ironically has made life more difficult and costly for ordinary Europeans, while China continues to build new coal plants weekly, unrepentant and unregulated.
