The Italian engineer Vilfredo Pareto, in the late 1800s, uncovered a fascinating pattern in income distribution. Analyzing income data from various European countries, he found that the distribution was not normal. Instead, it followed a distinct power-law pattern: a small percentage of people held most of the wealth, and the number of people earning above a certain level decreased gradually, following a simple mathematical relationship.
