The first two episodes, in particular, seemed to serve as a misguided attempt to erase Henry Cavill’s iteration of Geralt, with many viewers noticing blatant reshoots and rewrites that seemed designed to erase the previous actor’s influence. The showrunners’ claims that they were not abandoning the game or book lore but merely offering their interpretation fell flat, especially as the actual storytelling seemed more an exercise in generating controversy than honoring the original universe.
