For the past month and a half, the summer box office has been largely driven by blockbuster franchises. Films like the fourth installment of the Jurassic World series, along with DC and Marvel superhero movies including Superman and Fantastic Four, have been the main attractions, drawing in audiences with familiar characters and high-budget spectacles.
However, that trend shifted dramatically this past weekend with the release of an original horror movie titled Weapons. Unlike the franchise-heavy releases that preceded it, Weapons managed to carve out its own space at the box office, immediately capturing audience attention.
