The character of Soul, who attempts to do the right thing and makes mistakes, is killed off prematurely and pointlessly—force choked to death by OSHA after a questionable transition to the dark side that relies on naïveté. This death was seen as an unjustified and poorly executed attempt to elicit sympathy for OSHA, who is portrayed as a naive, foolish villain. The narrative props up this character arc to persuade viewers that embracing darkness is inherently liberating, which critics argue is an unhealthy and misguided message.
Adding insult to injury, a supposed effort to cover up the death of a character named May via a forced memory wipe by the Jedi is yet another example of sloppy storytelling and a betrayal of established Star Wars lore.
