Despite clear numeric evidence illustrating the show's failure, Disney and affiliated media outlets persist in attempts to frame The Acolyte as a success. They point to superficial metrics such as being within the top 10 streamed shows for a particular week to suggest popularity. However, even these claims are misleading, as the drop-offs and low engagement numbers tell a different story.
The persistent narrative that the series is a hit seems to be a desperate effort to salvage Disney's reputation following the series' poor reception. Critics argue that the selective use of data and the refusal to acknowledge the substantial decline in viewership amounts to a form of gaslighting.
