One of the stark indicators of this decline is the plummeting ratings. The episode featuring a same-sex kiss for the Doctor garnered some of the worst numbers in the show's history—second only to another low-rated episode earlier this season. These figures suggest that many viewers are tuning out, increasingly turned off by what they see as an overly politicized approach.
Additionally, Russell T. Davies, the current showrunner, has openly acknowledged the low ratings.
