Fan Backlash and Declining Ratings
From the outset, the reception to Gatwa’s portrayal was mixed. Some fans voiced their displeasure publicly, with Gatwa responding dismissively—urging viewers to turn off their TVs if they disliked what was being presented. This defiant attitude did little to stem criticism, and ratings reflected the discontent: Doctor Who experienced one of its worst viewership performances in its 60-year history during this season.
