Creators’ Defenses and Lack of Empathy
In response to the backlash, some creators, including Gwa himself, have taken a dismissive stance. Gwa has publicly told fans to "touch grass" and essentially dismisses criticism as a failure of fandom rather than a concern about content quality. He asserts that anyone who objects to a Black gay Doctor isn't a true fan, framing their dissatisfaction as a personal attack on diversity initiatives.
This rhetoric further alienates loyal viewers, framing their concerns as bigotry rather than valid feedback about story direction or representation choices. Such dismissiveness only deepens the divide, risking further ratings decline and franchise diminishing popularity.
