Media Spin and Mischaracterizations
In response to the fan uprising, mainstream media outlets began to frame the backlash as something else entirely. An example is IGN's Isaiah D. Colar, who claimed that Star Wars fans hate Black people, based solely on the dislike counts for the trailer. Such narratives are viewed by critics as an attempt to dismiss the fans’ concerns as rooted in racism or bigotry, ignoring the actual content and messaging of the series.
The truth, many argue, is that fans are reacting to what the series itself represents: an overt prioritization of identity politics that many feel compromises the storytelling quality and original spirit of Star Wars.
