However, the statements from Jonathan Nolan, the director and executive producer of the series, cast a different light on the project. Nolan openly admitted that he didn’t initially set out to craft a show that would solely please Fallout fans. Instead, his approach was centered around making a show that he personally wanted to see—a common creative philosophy, but one that raises questions about fidelity to source material.
In a roundtable discussion, Nolan explained his philosophy:
“You can’t really set out to please the fans of anything or please anyone other than yourself. You have to come into this trying to make the show that you want to make, trusting that fans will find the pieces that are essential to them.”
