Adding insult to injury, the movie fell short of the Christmas holiday projections, earning only about $10.6 million on Christmas Day, less than half of its previous day’s takings. The film's three-day weekend gross was a disappointing $27.7 million, marking a far cry from its predecessor’s debut, which earned $83 million before Christmas.
