Part 2/10:
Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, numerous projects have been announced with fanfare but rarely materialized as planned. Big-screen movies, spin-offs, and new directions have been teased only to vanish into development hell. One of the most glaring examples is the long-rumored Ray movie—a project that has experienced almost two years of turbulence and indecision.
In 2023, during Disney's Star Wars Celebration, Daisy Ridley, who played Rey Skywalker in the sequel trilogy, was brought on stage amidst much fanfare and announced as returning for a new film centered on her character. The project was supposed to be directed by Charmino Banoi, a filmmaker known primarily for her documentaries on female inequality, marking her feature debut in this new space.
