However, the development process quickly hit obstacles. Initial writers like Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt Gibson were reportedly dismissed, and subsequent writers—including Stephen Knight, known for Peaky Blinders and The Born Ultimatum—also left or were fired after failing to deliver satisfactory scripts. Multiple script delays pushed back production dates, casting doubt on whether the movie would ever see the light of day.
Throughout this period, more writers were brought in, only for projects to be shelved or indefinitely postponed. The constant reshuffling demonstrated a larger issue within Lucasfilm—a landscape riddled with internal chaos, unstable leadership, and conflicting visions for the franchise's future.
