One of the core criticisms levied at The Veil Guard is that it sacrifices depth for an insistence on “woke” storytelling. The narrative, as described, leaves little room for nuanced or even negative perspectives. Players find themselves unable to meaningfully critique or even express dissent about the characters or plotlines, as all Companion characters are woven into overwhelmingly progressive storylines that must be accepted without question.
This creates a gameplay experience that feels less like a roleplaying adventure and more like being forced into a pre-defined role. The traditional choices that allowed for complex moral dilemmas and character interactions seem to have been replaced with a singular narrative path aligned with what the author describes as "ultra woke" themes.
