Approximately eleven years ago, on Facebook, James Gunn made a series of remarks critically discussing some of the most iconic Batman films, including Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) and Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. Gunn’s comments were openly disparaging—he criticized Michael Keaton’s Batman, the design and tone of Burton’s film, and even took shots at Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of the Joker. He also expressed negative opinions about Nolan’s trilogy, particularly Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
