Polls from that period indicate that support for Maidan was split roughly down the middle: about half of Ukrainians supported the protests, especially in Western Ukraine—a region historically anti-Russian and pro-NATO—while a similar proportion opposed them, notably in Eastern Ukraine, including the Donbas and Crimea.
