Part 4/11:
The criminal enterprise centered around a Minneapolis-based organization called Feeding Our Future, which acted as a front for a massive money laundering ring. Allegedly, Somali-run restaurants such as Safari claimed to serve thousands of meals daily but in reality, little to no food was distributed. Instead, the scheme was designed to siphon off funds intended for hungry children.
One of the prime suspects, Usuzman Chimera, had been previously barred from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for suspected fraud in 2015 but was still allowed back into the system to operate in the child nutrition program. This gross negligence highlights the systemic failures within Minnesota’s welfare oversight under Walls.
