The series has made notable changes to traditional character appearances, which immediately drew the attention of viewers. Among the most prominent are race swaps for key characters: Norman Osborn and Harry Osborn are now portrayed as Black, and Harry's visual design has been described as somewhat androgynous or ambiguous in gender presentation. Additionally, the show introduces gender swaps and further racial diversity, including a race-swapped version of Dr. Connors, aka the Lizard.
