Hollywood has long viewed video game franchises as fertile ground for cinematic success, hoping to capitalize on built-in fan bases. Sometimes these efforts pay off—Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog serve as shining examples. However, many others—like Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed, and Monster Hunter—have struggled to find critical or commercial success. The Borderlands adaptation, in particular, seems destined to join the ranks of the latter, based on early indicators.
