The lack of protective measures or regulations means that society is ill-prepared for the wave of misinformation and deepfakes that AI can produce.
The political actors and tech oligarchs dominating this space, such as Elon Musk and other industry elites, are not necessarily incentivized to prioritize societal safety. The unchecked proliferation of AI tools could lead to a world where fact and fiction are indistinguishable, undermining public trust and social cohesion.
