Fans were wary of another female-led project in the Mad Max universe, especially given Hollywood’s recent track record. The franchise's previous installment, Mad Max: Fury Road, despite its success, did not translate into trust for spin-offs centered solely on Furiosa, especially now that Mad Max himself was absent from the main narrative. The feeling among many viewers: Hollywood had repeatedly burned them with similar agendas, leading to a reluctance to invest in such movies.
The Box Office Collapse
The second weekend only worsened Furiosa's prospects. It failed to reclaim the top spot, which was overtaken by Garfield, an unlikely leader, with a modest $14 million. Meanwhile, Furiosa was surpassed by It, which had been out an additional week, further depressing expectations.
