The Central Bank and Dollarization Promises: From Ambition to Reality
One of Milei’s most radical proposals was to dollarize Argentina's economy and disband the Central Bank, which would have been an unprecedented move globally. However, instead of immediate dollarization, recent appointments, such as the hiring of a JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank banker as the Central Bank's head, suggest a continuation of somewhat traditional monetary policies.
Furthermore, the promise to outright dollarize has been shelved, at least for now. Instead, the US dollar has increasingly become an alternative currency for transactions, adding to the economic chaos as the peso rapidly depreciates.
