Between Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving of the latest year, Disney released a string of movies that collectively underperformed or outright lost money. Titles such as Strange World, The Little Mermaid, Elemental, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Haunted Mansion, The Marvels, and Wish all failed to generate profits. The only film that narrowly escaped financial disaster was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which, given its estimated production budget of $250 million and a $150 million marketing cost, barely managed to squeak into profitability.
