Morgenthau's approach was outlined in a book he authored shortly after the war, titled “Germany Is Our Problem.” The title itself reveals the provocative intent behind the plan—viewing Germany as a challenge that needed to be neutralized by crippling its economic potential.
Despite the intensity of this plan, it was quickly abandoned and largely forgotten as the geopolitical landscape shifted towards reconstruction and reconciliation. The notion of deliberately destroying a nation’s industrial base, especially one as vital as Germany’s, was deemed too extreme, even evil by most standards at the time.
