During past labor disputes, audiences eagerly demanded the return of hit shows and late-night programs, which helped pressure studios to reach agreements. However, with late-night shows and other productions still on hiatus, and audiences turning elsewhere for entertainment, there’s been little public outcry.

This lack of consumer pressure appears to have diminished the leverage the writers previously had, making studios more resistant to concessions. Furthermore, the entertainment industry has suffered financially, with billions lost due to streaming challenges and declining box office numbers.
