The projected advent of hundreds of thousands—and eventually millions—of robo-taxis could replace a significant portion of this human workforce. Estimations indicate that as few as 1 million robo-taxis could substitute the entire global Uber fleet, considering the average daily miles driven per vehicle. With robo-taxis being at least three times cheaper—costing less than a dollar per mile—they theoretically open up an order of magnitude larger market for shared mobility, extending beyond urban centers into suburban and rural areas where Uber usage is currently limited due to cost.
