Early estimates painted a promising picture for The Little Mermaid, suggesting it could gross around $105 million during its opening three-day weekend, with a four-day holiday total possibly reaching $134 million. Such projections indicated that the film might surpass previous Disney live-action remakes like Aladdin during its opening weekend. In reality, however, the movie opened to approximately $95 million domestically over the three-day period, eventually reaching $117 million over the four days, including Memorial Day. While these numbers are respectable and technically classify as a domestic hit, they fall significantly short of the lofty expectations, especially considering the promotional push and production costs.
